| What we do |
We see our classes as a great way to improve people’s health outcomes and at the same time introduce them to a brand new concept that will enrich their lives. This can only be beneficial to Bournemouth in general. We also offer a very green form of exercise in that all we need is an open space to take classes. We have recently started several community projects in London where we work with hostels that accommodate people with drug dependency problems or those who are homeless. This has gone very well indeed, and Westminster City Council are likely to win an award for their forward thinking on this one. We are starting different projects in other regions that involve working with ex offenders and vulnerable young adults. We are also hoping to realise charitable status for our community work this year.

| Contribution to Partnership | As a company, British Military Fitness provides outdoor fitness classes for people of all abilities and backgrounds. We have over 60 venues, and 10,000 members up and down the UK. We recently opened in Poole Park, Poole and Kings Park Bournemouth. Our classes are based around military style fitness whilst remaining accessible to everyone. Contrary to popular belief we are not a ‘boot camp’ and during the classes people are encouraged and motivated to achieve their best. Our instructors are all ex or current serving armed forces with a fitness qualification gained either through the forces or outside of this. They are also passionate about what they do. We get some great results with people. We are strong advocates of ‘social fitness’ and our classes encourage social cohesion. Most of the exercises we get people to perform are team or pair orientated in nature. Members get plenty of encouragement from within the group and because it is a shared experience, they often end up making good friends with the people they exercise with, and this means that they stick to their exercise programme and improve their health accordingly. |
