What we do

The Butterfly Foundation works with Survivors of Domestic Abuse and contributes towards the SSC/LAA objectives by providing weekly drop-in support workshops. We are a point of contact and can signpost victims of abuse to the agencies who can help them with their immediate needs a swell providing on-going support and recovery from abuse. We often provide information, support and guidance to the victims over the phone and through our website. We give information on our Freedom Programme and enrol them on to a course as soon as possible. We have been supporting current members through the Courts system and often liaise with solicitors and social services. Through the Freedom Programme we help members to gain a perspective on abusive behaviour and break the pattern. This provides a base on which to build more healthy relationships for the future. The Butterfly Foundation is based within a community centre alongside other charitable groups such as Vita Nova and works closely with local schools, youth groups, children’s centres and Social Services. We are currently establishing links with children’s forums working throughout Dorset. Through our public exhibition and performances we are in an ideal position to give children and young people a platform in which to have a voice. It is important to us to make the local community aware of the serious effects domestic violence has on children and young people and the personal, social and economic consequence of this.

Contribution to Partnership Our activities include: a twelve week rolling “Freedom Programme” to help Survivors of Domestic Violence (DV) recognise and avoid abusive relationships and develop healthy relationships; educational packages which we take into local schools, youth centres and maternity units; self esteem workshops; weekly art-therapy workshops; one-to-one counselling; public art exhibitions and collaborative drama workshops; communication and life-skill educational groups; self-defence classes; relaxation and mediation sessions.
