What we do	Disability Wessex Advice, part of Diverse Abilities Plus, a registered charity, provides advice and assistance to disabled people, their families and carers, throughout Dorset, Bournemouth and Poole. Disability Wessex Advice has a small team of experienced Advisors, with extensive knowledge, relevant training and qualifications and the majority have personal experience of living with a health condition or impairment. Our aim is to provide advice and assistance, to enable disabled people and families to understand and secure their rights and entitlements. Advice and assistance is available to help with: Disability benefits applications, renewals, changes of circumstance and appeals; Applications to the Court of Protection for Deputyship orders – to enable another person to make major decisions and manage the money of another adult who lacks the mental capacity to make their own decisions; Creating and registering Lasting Powers of Attorney – to give the legal authority to another adult to make decisions on your behalf should you lose the mental capacity to make your own decisions. Special educational needs – statementing, educational appeals. Home visits are available where there is a need. There are charges for these services – they are not set to make a profit, but to go some way towards covering the costs of running the service.
