Boscombe Chine Gardens is ‘Best Park’ in the South and South East

Boscombe has been presented with another award in 2010 – this time for the excellent quality of its gardens.

Boscombe Chine Gardens received a Gold award (scoring 92 points out of 100) and was judged to be the ‘Best Park’ in the South & South East in Bloom competition, sponsored by Southern Water.

Bournemouth’s Lower and Central Gardens were also rated ‘outstanding’ (scoring 89 points out of 100) and presented with a Gold award, whilst Kinson Common nature reserve picked up a Silver Gilt for the first time, thanks to the efforts of the Friends of Kinson Common.

It is the first time in 10 years that Bournemouth has entered these awards.

Councillor Rod Cooper, Cabinet Member for Economy, Leisure and Tourism, said: “These awards show just what can be achieved when the Council and the community join forces to improve our local environment. Together with Bournemouth In Bloom, the Friends of Kinson Common, the Friends of Boscombe Gardens and the Lower Gardens Volunteer Group we have created parks and gardens in Bournemouth that we can truly be proud of.”

Di Parker of Bournemouth In Bloom added: “My thanks must go to the people that do the real physical work to make our gardens what they are. They work incredibly hard, and these awards are testament to the tremendous effort that goes in to provide Bournemouth with parks and gardens that we can all enjoy and admire."

South & South East in Bloom promotes, supports and encourages community activity through gardening, horticulture and environmental sustainability across Kent, Surrey, East & West Sussex, Hampshire, Isle of Wight and parts of Dorset and Wiltshire. It is one of 18 independent regional campaigns which make up Britain in Bloom - Europe’s largest horticultural campaign.
