A telephone survey was conducted in 2009 with 300 Bournemouth residents to explore awareness among the public of the Code of Conduct with which Councillors must comply.
The survey covered the kinds of behaviours the public think are required under the Code of Conduct and their levels of confidence that Councillors comply with the Code of Conduct.
The survey was repeated with residents on the Council's e-panel during Autumn 2010 and 2011 to monitor any changes in opinion.
The survey found that trust and confidence in local Councillors to comply with the Code of Conduct has increased over the last year (from 55% in 2010 to 68% in 2011).
