At the end of 2011 Bournemouth Borough Council explored the possibility of replacing a number of existing household refuse and recycling bins with communal street bins. These are large shared use bins placed on the roadside. The introduction of communal street bins could improve efficiency, service delivery and reduce costs.
A three month trial was planned in Churchill Gardens during which time the current refuse and recycling bins were to be removed and replaced with communal refuse and recycling bins located on the street.
Prior to the trial a face-to-face survey was conducted with residents in the area to establish any concerns residents may have so that steps can be taken to minimise these.
As a result of the survey and the concerns raised by residents it was decided that the trial and project should not go ahead at the current time.
The full results can be seen in the document below.
