The LINk set up a Learning Disability Group. The group comprised of members
of Bournemouth People First. This is a charity run for and by people with learning disabilities. They help each other to speak up, lead change and provide services to local organisations. The charity is a participant in Bournemouth LINk.
The aim of this group was to plan a project to engage with people who will be affected by the Day Service Review and give them the opportunity to comment on the proposals.
The group gathered information from all the service users by conducting a
paper-based survey.
Eeach of the affected day centres was visited in turn and the proposed
changes were discussed with the service users; carers, families and staff. Bournemouth Borough Council supported this approach.
A letter was given to each of the service users, along with a copy of the questionnaire. This enabled any carer or family member to complete the questionnaire at home and/or to come to the centre and speak to a member of the team.
