New controls on dogs and responsibilities on their owners are being proposed in Bournemouth, following public consultation.
In 2009, 500 people took part in a borough-wide consultation about the orders which are intended as a way for the Council and Police to deal with nuisance dogs and tackle owners who take their dogs into designated dog-free areas or in areas where they must be on leads.
A new order is being proposed to give the Police and Council Enforcement Officers the power to direct any owner to put their dog on a lead if it is causing a nuisance. The other proposed byelaws - concerning failure to remove dog fouling, dog exclusion areas and dogs on leads - are a renewal of existing arrangements with some additional sites included such as some new children’s play areas, enclosed ball courts, formal gardens and grazing paddocks (when in use).
The time period for comments has now closed however you can view the full proposals at www.bournemouth.gov.uk/parks or download them below. The proposed byelaws will be presented to Cabinet in April and if approved will come into effect from 17 May 2011.
