Bournemouth People First, a charity run for, and by, people with learning disabilities is putting on its first ever Festival of Diversity, which will take place on Saturday 11 September 2010 in Boscombe Chine Gardens.
This is a unique festival as it will be run by people with learning disabilities and it will bring the community together to understand the talents of people with learning disabilities. The festival will be a colourful, vibrant and creative event and it will also celebrate Bournemouth People First's 10th Birthday and the Bournemouth Bicentenary, celebrating 200 years.
After the success of our learning disability Mix it Up DJs performing at Camp Bestival, Bournemouth People First were inspired to put on their own festival.
As well as the Mix it Up DJs, spinning their tunes there will be an exciting mix of:
• Art and craft exhibition
• Pottery, jewellery and printmaking workshops
• Information stands
• refreshments
• A range of arts, yoga, drama and music workshops
• Special Olympics/ sports
• Face painting
• Games
• And much, much more
Amanda Frost, staff member with learning disabilities from Bournemouth People First said:
“It’s going to be an exciting fun filled event where people with learning disabilities can showcase their talents to the people of Bournemouth and beyond. I hope the day will help to change the public’s attitudes towards people with learning disabilities so they can have a greater understanding of what we can do and see us as people first.”
The project was developed through a partnership between Bournemouth People First, Bournemouth Borough Council, Friends of Boscombe Gardens, Bournemouth Local Involvement Network (LINk), 15 Days in Clay and Curious Arts.
