The NHS in Bournemouth were credited yesterday with having world class procurement procedures by Chinese medical professionals, who visited the Royal Bournemouth Hospital to discuss best practice with the local NHS.
Procurement is the practice used by the NHS to purchase equipment, supporting clinicians with the technology they need, whilst ensuring that the best value for money is achieved for tax payers.
A delegation of six senior executives from the Zhejiang Province in China visited the Royal Bournemouth hospital to exchange ideas and discuss best procurement procedures on a wide range of issues.
The health professionals from China viewed presentations, toured the hospital and engaged in discussion with representatives from both for NHS Bournemouth and Poole and The Royal Bournemouth and Christchurch Hospitals.
The delegation praised the high standards of work and legislation around procurement of equipment and goods, placing the procedures of the NHS at the forefront of the global health community.
Mrs Lou Xiaomin, Division Chief of Equipment Division at the Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital of Hangzhou commented, “We are honoured to be here in the beautiful town of Bournemouth and visit its hospital.”
“The discussion and exchange of information was hugely beneficial to both parties. We exchanged ideas about hospital equipment, purchase procedures and clinical management. This was a great opportunity for health partners from different economies to discuss their common goal of supporting people to live longer and healthier lives. “
“I would like to thank NHS Bournemouth and Poole for The Royal Bournemouth and Christchurch Hospitals for their hospitality and would welcome our colleagues to visit us in China.”
The NHS works to a strict framework set by government which balances commercial practice with the needs of the NHS.
Edwin Rathbone, Head of Commercial Services at the Royal Bournemouth and Christchurch Hospital commented, “The day proved significant benefit in the debate and sharing of the commercial procurement practices and the challenges we both face in our respective economies - both parties were able to identify with very common approaches to delivery of best value in the healthcare environment whilst learning from the differences we each employ.”
