Inspiratonal residents recognised in Pride of Bournemouth Awards

A teenager who has championed the rights of young people has received the prestigious Pride of Bournemouth Award.

 Jasminn Osborne

Jasminn Osborne, 19, has worked tirelessly as an ambassador for the Children’s Exploitation and Online Protection Agency, helping educate peers about the dangers of the internet. She has also lobbied MPs in the House of Commons and prompted better communications between transport providers and young people.

The youngster from Winton stole the show at the Daily Echo-backed Bournemouth 2026 Pride of Bournemouth Awards at Bournemouth Pavilion on Sunday September 18 when she collected her Heart of Gold Young Person Award and JP Morgan-sponsored Pride of Bournemouth Award from actors Martin Clunes and CBBC’s Chris Jarvis.

Dorcas Williams of awards sponsor JP Morgan described Jasminn as “inspirational”, adding: “She has the courage and inclination to take her message to the very highest level.”

Terry Husher, the youth worker who nominated Jasminn, said: “She has dedicated so much of her time and enthusiasm to making Bournemouth a better place for the whole community and it is superb that she has been recognised with the main award.”

This year the Bournemouth 2026 Pride of Bournemouth Awards celebrated a record number of nominations.

Other winners at the gala event included the Volunteers of the Dorset Working Women Project at The Junction (among them medical and drugs rehabilitation experts) who were presented with a Heart of Gold Award in recognition of their work promoting health and minimising harm for those working in the sex industry.

West Howe’s Grant Watton was crowned Go Green Hero. The award, which was sponsored by Yellow Buses, celebrated Grant’s efforts to tackle a run-down part of Cunningham Crescent to create a community garden.  Volunteer Coxswain Jonathan Clark, who has worked on the Poole Lifeboat (the busiest lifeboat station in UK) for 30 years, received the RIAS-backed Lion Heart Award in recognition of enormous acts of bravery.

Andrew Armstrong of the Dorset Aids Memorial Schools Education Trust was crowned Arts and Music Hero (the award sponsored by BH Live) for his work creating a wall of over 400 brightly coloured tiles at Pier Approach – each one in memory of a person in Dorset who has lost their life to AIDS.

The winners were presented with their medals and a Wild in Art lion sculpture at the Pride of Bournemouth auction in which lions were sold in aid of Julia’s House Hospice and the Born Free Foundation.

Organiser Clare Hirst of Bournemouth 2026 added: “Winners in all our categories have demonstrated an outstanding commitment to their communities and we hope their stories inspire others.”
