Recruitment Drive for Bournemouth Foster Carers

A campaign to recruit foster carers and provide homes for children waiting for a placement in the borough has launched in Bournemouth this week.

Bournemouth Borough Council is placing adverts on Yellow Buses over the next four weeks in a bid to recruit the next generation of foster carers to change the lives of vulnerable children and young people. This initiative follows the successful campaign in 2009, which helped recruit additional foster carers in Bournemouth.

Councillor Nicola Greene, Cabinet Member for Education and Children’s Services said: “We have an extremely dedicated team of foster carers, who do an amazing job. We recruited an additional 14 foster carers in 2009 and it is vital that we continue to build on this success. The more foster carers we have the better able we are to match children and young people with the most suitable carers. "

Bournemouth foster carer Kerry, has fostered 12 children in the past two years and has been fostering an eight month old baby since birth. She said: “I decided to foster because I knew that I could offer a stable and loving home in which children could be safe, feel loved, valued and nurtured. I have not had one moment’s regret since making that decision.

“Of course you do face challenges, and it can be a roller coaster of emotions, but you know you are making a difference and that’s what counts. I would really encourage people to consider finding out more about fostering because knowing that you are helping children in need makes it the most wonderful job in the world.”
