The conurbation has a diverse range of religions, from Christian churches of numerous denominations and creeds, including an Eastern Orthodox Church (Parkstone), to other world faiths such as Islam, Judaism, Buddhism and Hinduism. In addition to churches, the conurbation includes a mosque, synagogue, and a Tibetan Buddhist temple. Other important non-religious beliefs/perspectives are represented in humanist, feminist and vegetarian groups, whilst the Triangle area of Bournemouth is an important centre for the conurbation’s LGB&T community. Bournemouth and Poole councils in conjunction with partner organisations uphold strong equality, diversity and anti-discrimination policies and perspectives based upon related UK laws.
Bournemouth Borough Council and Borough of Poole Council are subject the Public Sector Equality Duty under the Equality Act 2010. The new duty covers:
Hate crime is any criminal offence committed against a person or property that is motivated by an offender's hatred of someone because of their: race, colour, ethnic origin, nationality or national origins religion gender or gender identity sexual orientation disability.
